What Burmese cats are like to live with

The Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), which registers pedigree cats in the UK, calls the Burmese "the extrovert of the cat world". It describes the breed as playful, energetic and mischievous, and says Burmese love human company and want to be part of family life. It adds that if you enjoy the quiet life, a Burmese "probably isn't for you". It says Burmese rank fifth in popularity among GCCF registrations.

Burmese cats in Birmingham: your questions

Tap a question to expand

How many rescue Burmese cats are available for adoption in Birmingham?

As of 7 November 2026, no Burmese cats are listed for adoption in and around Birmingham on LocalPetFinder. Rescues add animals all the time, so this page fills as they list them.

Do Burmese cats need a lot of attention?

Usually, yes. The GCCF calls the Burmese the extrovert of the cat world and says Burmese love human company and do not like to feel neglected. Ask the rescue how this cat copes when left alone.

Are Burmese cats noisy?

Not loudly. The GCCF says the Burmese has a soft, sweet voice and will enjoy a conversation with you if encouraged.

How much does it cost to adopt a Burmese in Birmingham?

Each rescue sets its own adoption fee. Cats Protection says you can expect to pay £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, varying between its branches, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. The fee usually covers neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations, and each rescue confirms its own fee.

Are there Burmese kittens for sale in Birmingham?

No. We don't list animals for sale. Every Burmese on this page is with a rescue or rehoming centre. Rescues rehome animals rather than selling them, usually for an adoption fee: for example, Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten. The fee usually goes towards vet work already done, such as neutering, microchipping and first vaccinations. If you searched "burmese kittens for sale Birmingham", the Burmese cats here are the rescue route: you apply to the rescue and pay its adoption fee, not a sale price. In England, Lucy's Law has meant since 6 April 2020 that kittens under six months can't be sold by a third party such as a pet shop or dealer: you buy direct from the breeder or adopt from a rehoming centre.

Can I get a free Burmese to a good home in Birmingham, or one under £100?

Usually not. UK rescues normally ask for an adoption fee, which pays towards neutering, microchipping and vaccinations. At the large cat charities, fees for one cat are under £200: Cats Protection says £80 to £120 on average for an adult cat and £100 to £120 for a kitten, and Blue Cross fees start from £150 for cats aged 4 months to 7 years. An animal offered "free to a good home" is usually a private advert rather than a rescue. In England, cats must be microchipped before they are 20 weeks old, so ask to see the microchip details.

Are there Burmese kittens for adoption in Birmingham?

Not right now: no Burmese cats are listed in and around Birmingham today, so there are no kittens either. Kittens do get listed, and rescues can tell you much more about an adult's character, so check back.
