Sally

Sally is a lively seven-month-old Cane Corso cross puppy. She will grow into a large, powerful dog, so she’s looking for a home that genuinely understands what that commitment involves. Sally is still discovering the world around her and can initially appear worried when meeting new people. She gains confidence as she gets to know them and has built many positive relationships with members of staff during her time with us. Her new owners will need to give her time and patience to settle and allow her to approach new experiences at her own pace. She really enjoys playing with toys, particularly tug games. She can become very bouncy when excited and may jump up at people during play. As she will grow into a large dog, it is important that her new owners encourage calm behaviours from the outset. Sally is still learning to walk nicely on a lead and may jump up at her handler when she is unsure or excited. Slow, exploratory walks will be particularly beneficial, allowing her to build her confidence and support her development into a well-rounded adult dog. She has met dogs of different sizes and has generally been very playful with them but is still learning to manage her excitement around other dogs. We recommend that she is the only dog in her new home at this stage. This will allow her to settle, develop calm habits and build positive experiences around other dogs while out on walks. Sally came into our care as a stray, so we have no history of how she behaves in a home environment. While with us, she has shown some mild stress when left alone and has occasionally been vocal when seeking attention. Her new owners should give her plenty of time to settle before gradually introducing short periods of separation. A secure private garden is essential, providing Sally with a safe space to enjoy some off-lead time and practise skills such as recall. As she will become a powerful dog, the garden must have sturdy, secure fencing and gates. Sally is looking for committed owners who understand the rewards and responsibilities of raising a Cane Corso. She will need continued training, mental enrichment, positive experiences and patient guidance as she learns about the world around her.
