Opie

Opie is a Pomeranian cross with plenty of character who is looking for a calm home where he can enjoy life at his own pace. He loves getting out and about to explore, spending time with his people, and relaxing in a comfortable environment. Opie enjoys his daily walks and loves taking his time to sniff and investigate his surroundings. While being on foster Opie has been great on his walks and likes to walk right by his foster carers side. He will suit owners who are happy to let him enjoy gentle adventures followed by plenty of time to relax. He has grown into an affectionate boy who enjoys spending time with his favourite people but prefers interactions to be on his own terms. He will often choose to sit beside people when he is ready for a fuss and now nudges his foster carers when he wants fuss from them. Learning Opie’s body language will be essential for his new family so they can recognise when he would prefer space. Opie is a vocal boy when he socialises with other dogs. He has a history of barking and pulling towards other dogs but would be friendly when greeting. We believe that most of the time, these behaviours are over-playfulness and excitement as Opie has quite a vocal playstyle. He has made some dog friends in his foster home who he enjoys seeing on a regular basis. Opie settled well in his previous home but would bark when people passed by the house, so he would benefit from living in a home away from a busy road where there are fewer opportunities to react. A secure private garden that does not back onto a high traffic area would also help him enjoy quiet time outdoors. Whilst he was vocal for the first few days in his foster home once he settled in he became a much more relaxed guest. Opie has been housetrained both in his previous home and during his time at Battersea Old Windsor. He enjoys a variety of food and is always pleased to accept a tasty treat. His newest trick on foster is carrying his bowl over to his carers and dropping it in front of them. New owners will need to be mindful that he is currently working towards losing weight, so treats should be given in moderation. Any potential new owners will need to speak to a Battersea vet prior to rehoming. For owners who appreciate the company of a fun companion and are happy to respect his boundaries, Opie will make a great addition.
