MJ is a 3-year-old neutered female looking for a calm, experienced new home. She has had a very difficult few months before coming into our care. Originally owned as an unneutered cat, MJ became pregnant and, following an incident involving her kitten, reacted aggressively towards her owner. The situation escalated to the point where the owner refused to return home until MJ had been removed. A smaller rescue stepped in and placed MJ into foster care. At that stage, she was extremely stressed and unsettled, and it was felt safest for her kitten to be moved to another nursing mother, where the kitten settled and thrived. Unfortunately, MJ struggled to adjust in foster care and her behaviour became too much for the placement to safely manage, so she was transferred to us for further assessment and care. Since arriving with us, MJ has shown a completely different side to her personality. She is a sweet, affectionate girl who enjoys being picked up and cuddled, and she absolutely loves burrowing herself under blankets in her bed. Staff have been so impressed by how well she has settled into the shelter environment, and everyone who meets her comments on what a lovely girl she is. However, because of her history, MJ will need a very understanding and experienced owner who recognises that she may still react aggressively if she becomes frightened, stressed, or overwhelmed. Her new home will need to be patient, calm, and willing to give her the time, space, and boundaries she needs to feel secure and settled.
